Vegan Schmegan

So, I was just scavenging through our freezer for a mid-morning snack for myself. You see, since the majority of my work is done during the lunchtime hours (11am-2pm), I have to eat when I can. I usually eat an early breakfast and then get a pseudo-lunch in around 10am that will last me until I can make it home for an early afternoon snack. I peered into our freezer, stocked full of various forms of meatless wonders...Garden Burgers, Quorn products of every flavor and variety, Boca Burgers, Whole Foods burritos...ah, Whole Foods burrito, that sounds good. So, as I'm trying to rip open the package, I glance down at the nutritional information. I guess that I (all too often) assume that if I buy something at Whole Foods, it is unquestionably good for me--and normally, this is pretty much the case. However, just now, reading the calorie count and fat gram count on one, measly rice and bean burrito...not even the bean, cheese and rice burritos, which I've stopped eating in my quest to be a good and proper Vegan...I was shocked! Did you know that 1 bean and rice burrito has 350 calories!!! and 12 (count 'em), 12 grams of fat??!?! Who, where, wha...? I was dumbfounded. I can't even begin to figure out where 12 grams of fat can come from in a burrito with no meat or cheese. One of the ingredients was canola oil, which I guess might be used to fry the tortilla slightly or something, but 12 grams of fat??? I don't get it. Needless to say, I forewent (is that a word?...past tense of forego?) the burrito and had a Quorn Chick'n (not chicken) Patty sandwich and blew my Veganism for the day as the patty has egg and milk. Drat! I will be a Vegan later.
