Goal-Setting

Long time, no blog--I'm sorry.

The other day at the gym, something caught my eye and I've since been possessed by a really crazy idea. On the bulletin board, right outside of the ladies locker room, where I diligently wash my hands after each workout--gym germs are the grossest...almost as bad as a doctor's office waiting room germs. There, on the bulletin board was a flyer for the 2005 Jingle Bell 5 Mile Run. That alone was only mildly interesting, but under the title was an explanation of a 12 week training class wherein you get a written workout and attend workshops, all geared toward helping you to prepare for and accomplish this race. This was just the thing that I had been craving. I'm not a runner by nature, I have wonky knees and get bored pretty easily, but this race is the day after my 31st birthday and I thought that it would be a great way to catapult myself right out of my comfort zone.

Additionally, I've also signed up for the Race For The Cure (www.komen.org). This race is only a 5K, a little over 3 miles, so I figure that it will be a good barometer for how I'm doing and what I still need to work on. I'm excited to have some goals to set and meet as well as some purpose, when I'm at the gym, instead of wandering aimlessly from machine to machine with no real sense of accomplishment.
