Hey Drivel, Drivel The Kitty and The Fiddle
(The Cat Just Hurled In My Shoe)
Random drivel from a new mom, cat freak and compulsive hand-washer who has a strange affinity for the music of Christopher Cross.

I think that my doctor's appointment on Thursday scared the nesting right out of Kevin. We trekked to Babies R Us today and bought some of our last-minute supplies (including the Lincoln Navigator of car seats--'cause that's how we Juricas roll). Kevin came home and has spent the rest of the afternoon putting everything together. And yes, the pictures are a tad blurry--it's not your eyes. I'm a bad picture taker and also, Kevin was moving so fast, putting everything together at lightening speed, that contributed to the blur-factor as well.

Nesting

A phenomenon that can only be described as my "Nesting Instinct" kicked into high gear this week. I felt a compulsion to clean out closets, organize, throw out junk, etc. Rationally, it dawned upon me that this baby will be here in a month or so and I won't have time to do that sort of stuff once she arrives. Irrationally, I felt as though I had to do all of this in one day--completely get my home organized and in order. Possessing the strength of 10 Grinches, (plus 2), I started with our master bedroom closet; moved on to our fridge; tackled our pile of junk mail/random paperwork that we never went through before we moved; went on a laundry bonanza--all of this within the span of about 8 hours. I was like a woman possessed. Even though I was physically exhausted from a combination of all of the hard work that I was doing and the lack of sleep that has become a way of life for me lately, I was giddy with the possibility of each new task or project. Unfortunately, the Nesting Instinct flew the coop today and I'm feeling rather slothy and lazy.
Anna Claire's Humble Abode
Obviously there is still work to be done. I need to get a mattress for the crib; a changing pad for the changing table; decide if I do, in fact, want to hang that poppy print above the changing table (thoughts? anyone?); etc. It really is coming together nicely though, if I do say so myself--especially considering that almost all of the furniture in there was purchased second, third and possibly fourth-hand! Anna Claire's mommy is cheap, um, er...maybe frugal is the better word.

Happy Birthday To Me
Ben Folds Five - Selfless, Cold and Composed (live)
In honor of my birthday...one of my favorite songs. Who knew Ben Folds was once sort of cute? Now, not so much.

Candy Cane Frustration
I have a recipe that I wanted to try that calls for crushed up candy canes (no, it's not a recipe for meatloaf). I went to stupid Kroger today to pick up the supplies to make this recipe so that I can try it before potentially making many batches of it to give as small gifts. Ok, it's Dec. 7, prime time to buy candy canes, no? All I wanted was your basic, peppermint-flavored, red and white (would've even accepted green, red and white as long as they taste the same) candy canes. Instead, what I did find was pretty much this exact assortment. Finally, I dug through a yet-to-be unpacked box of cherry (Ew!) candy canes and discovered my basic, boring peppermint-flavored red and white candy canes. I had no idea that it would be such a big deal to go to the grocery store in December and buy candy canes.
Am apparently incubating a wee baby unicorn

So, I've a new pregnancy malady to share: The baby has decided to take up residence in the far, top left side of my uterus (maybe she gets better television reception over there) and spends most of her day poking me with something decidedly sharp like a foot, hand, elbow or antler. It's a very odd sensation--feels almost identical to a "stitch" that you get in your side from running too much or a sharp gas pain. It shocks me to know that my uterus extends that far over to my side. Makes me wonder how on Earth my uterus will ever go back to it's pre-pregnancy, small-pear size.
